Kelly presents a Vets Quilt to Lee Greenwood as they discuss the program.
Quilts for Vets Program takes off with much love. NEWS - JACKSON, MI, AUGUST, 2009
Wendy Wight, director of Together We Can Make a Difference of Jackson, Michigan, was commissioned by God to have 500 prayer quilts/blankets for our vets by veteran's day 11-11-09. As of August 31, 100 quilts/blankets went to St. Lewis, M.A. and 38 in Jackson, Mi. One blanket also went to Lee Greenwood, by way of Kelly Trudell, local singer/songwriter, for all that Lee does for both our active and veteran soldiers.
A total of 139 Quilt/blankets have been given out. We have finished 157 of them (as of Aug. 31) including the 139 as of 8/24/09. This quilt program can also be used as a community service.
If you would like to donate either time or supplies such as material, thread, needles, batting or any other sewing goods, please contact Wendy.
There are numerous organizations involved with this program: Kids-Salvation Army, Catholic Charities after-school program, Postal Quilters, Jackson Free Methodist Church, Vista Grande Villa, Daughters of Promise, Clark Lake Community Church, Grass Lake Assembly of God.
The Grass Lake Assembly of God youth group has sent out a challenge to other youth groups to get involved in this program to take care of our veterans.
